There are seven photographic genres the first one is Art. Art photography was the first photographic genre. This is when pictures are taken that look like they could have been drawings or paintings. The people who started this genre were painters that found interest in cameras. There are many subtitles to the Art genre for example sports or portraits of both people or animals. The next genre is Photography and War, as the the name of this genre is pretty obvious as to what it is about. In this genre it consists of pictures of war. Photography and War is a very controversial topic some don't think it is right to take pictures of people who have died at war while others think it shows respect. Digital truth is the third genre out of the seven. This genre is all about the pictures that have not been edited or changed in anyway. Although this seems to be a dying genre since most pictures that are published in magazines, newspapers or on TV have been changed. Even if it's just as simple as moving objects closer so they fit into a given space. The fourth genre is Presidential image-making, this is all pictures of the presidents when they are making speeches or making a public appearance of some kind. Advertising and Persuasion is next and this has to do with the ads you see pretty much everywhere. It can be used to make something look like the best thing ever or the worst. Next is social change this is when photographers used their cameras to bring awareness to topic that get pushed to the side. For example the social change genre has been used for anti-child labor and slum livings which is what they called the lower class in the early 1900’s. Lastly Cultural identity is also a photographic genre. This genre is to show how people in other cultures live day to day and how people of different race are treated.
The three photographs of mine that I have chosen to use for this project are from the art genre. The would be under the subheading of portraits some just featuring person and some featuring a person and their horse.
